Charlotte Steppes
"an exceptionally talented pianist"

Piano

Charlotte Steppes has earned an excellent reputation within just a few years as a versatile pianist who consistently pursues her own artistic path. She received her first piano lessons at the age of five at the Leipzig Music School “Johann Sebastian Bach” with Heidrun Schenker. Since 2012, she has been working with her current teacher and mentor Josef Christof and is currently completing her bachelor’s degree at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig.

In October 2024, at the age of 24, Charlotte Steppes made her debut as a soloist with the Gewandhaus Orchestra during the Mendelssohn Festival Days Leipzig, performing Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin (Frank-Michael Erben), Piano, and Orchestra under the direction of Marek Janowski.

She has also enjoyed a close collaboration for several years with the MDR Symphony Orchestra. In March 2024, under the baton of chief conductor Dennis Russell Davies, she performed the piano part in Charles Ives’ Symphony No. 4 during the live-broadcast anniversary concert celebrating “100 Years of Radio Orchestra.” With the same forces, she went on to play Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in Suhl in May 2024. The young pianist has also performed, to outstanding critical acclaim, Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major with the Philharmonic Orchestra Altenburg-Gera, Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto (on a Blüthner grand piano from 1857) at the Merseburg Hofmusik, the piano part in Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle with the Gewandhaus Choir (on a historic Pleyel piano from 1848), and Hwiman Ryu’s Piano Concerto in a video production with the Staatskapelle Weimar. Since 2020, she has repeatedly performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C major KV 467 with the MDR Symphony Orchestra.
