Her thematic piano recitals have been highly acclaimed at the Stuttgart Music Festival, the Erzgebirge Music Festival, the Leipzig Chopin Days, the Merseburg Organ Days, and more. Charlotte Steppes is a dedicated advocate of masterworks valued by connoisseurs but rarely heard in concert, such as the monumental piano sonatas by Julius Reubke and Felix Draeseke, Hanns Eisler’s First Piano Sonata, or Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Chopin.

She also has a strong interest in contemporary and newest music, has participated in numerous world premieres, and has performed in the Gewandhaus series musica nova.

From 2021 to 2023, she was a member of the Orchestra Academy of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig. There she played as orchestral pianist both at the Leipzig Opera and in the “Großes Concert,” working with leading conductors such as Andris Nelsons, Cristian Măcelaru, Alan Gilbert, and Franz Welser-Möst, in prominent parts including Stravinsky’s Petrushka, Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, and The Miraculous Mandarin.

In May 2024, Charlotte Steppes performed with Anne-Sophie Mutter in Witold Lutosławski’s Partita for violin and orchestra, which includes several duo intermezzi for violin and piano.
As a sought-after chamber musician and song accompanist, Steppes has appeared with renowned musicians and ensembles such as Thomas Hampson, Sergey Ostrowsky, Benedikt Kristjánsson, Tobias Berndt, Klaus Mertens, Britta Schwarz, Michael Schönheit, Sebastian Heindl, the Gewandhaus Wind Quintet, and the Gewandhaus Choir — at festivals including the chamber music festival con spirito, the Leipzig Bach Festival, musica nova, and the Whitsun Organ Festival “France” at the Gewandhaus.

Since 2023, she has been a regular chamber music partner of the Gewandhaus Orchestra’s first concertmaster Frank-Michael Erben. In 2026, she will perform with the Gewandhaus Quartet Leipzig at the Schumann Festival in Düsseldorf and at the Iburg Castle Concerts, which will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2025/26. With the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, she will play Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D major KV 451 in June 2026 under the direction of Sebastian Weigle.
